Vedic Astrology: The Light of Wisdom

Astrology for Beginners, Learn the Language of Stars

Introduction

Vedic astrology is an ancient science of India. It deals with stars and planetary forces' effect on human beings. This knowledge has developed over thousands of years and various great sages and rishis have contributed in this field that how the universal forces affect the earth and what are the principles behind that.

The rotation of the earth and other planets around the Sun is not chaos, it is cosmos and everything whether it is a micro or macro is following a certain principle. These secrets are written in our texts called “Vedas” – which is “The Knowledge of the Supreme.”

Every ancient civilization had some sort of system of beliefs that attributed the influence of planets and constellations to know the past, understand the present and predict the future. The human mind is always searching for the reason for their existence, from which sources we came on this earth, and what is the reason behind this pain and sorrow in our life. Who will give the answer to all these questions, where is the light?

The name “Astrology” is having Greek roots and comes from the words “Astron” which means “Star” and “Logia” means “Study of”. So, the word Astrology means “Study of Stars”. Astrology in Sanskrit called “Jyotish” means “Jyoti” and “Isha” which means “Light” and “God”. Hence, Jyotish means “The Light of God” or “The Science of Light”.

Astrology is the study that everything that exists on this earth has a meaningful purpose and we are not living in isolation in this universe. This human body is part of existence and the movement of celestial bodies affects us because the universe is full of energy and when the energy level changes due to the transit of planets, it not only affects our body but also the weather, geographical conditions, etc.

The study of astrology is vast and there are different branches of astrology. Most common we found it in newspapers and on television which is only for entertainment purposes. Serious astrology requires in-depth study of texts, scriptures, and some kind of intuition as predictions cannot be based only on mathematical calculations. Natal astrology is related to the horoscope calculated at the time of birth. Horary astrology determines the auspicious times for taking personal decisions. Mundane astrology studies the fate of countries, floods, earthquakes, weather, etc.

Astrology believes that everything on this earth is controlled by celestial bodies otherwise predictions are completely impossible. People are eager to know about the future events of their life but this is only a trivial worldly aspect. The true meaning of astrology is that one day the search will reach a level when we will know the reason for our existence and the whole play of this universe.

Our sages have discovered that planetary forces affect us and they contributed a lot to discover the truth behind it. The "Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra" written by Maharishi Parashar is the greatest treatise of astrology. The field was further contributed by Maharishi Brighu, Maharishi Jaimini, Mantreswara, Varahmihira, Vaidya Nath, Kalidas, Kalyan Verma, Ramanujacharya and many others made their great contributions in this field.

Vedic astrology believes in reincarnation and that the soul is immortal. After death, each soul bears the burden of its karma, and only, we are responsible for all the happenings in our life. Here every action of us is being recorded and till we do not close our account; we have to come time and again to this earth to settle the account.

The study of the birth chart prevents us from doing wrong deeds in this life. It gives us useful information about the timing of headwinds and tailwinds in our life so that we can take necessary measures and not get disheartened when the tide turns against us. It does not mean that one should surrender to the hands of destiny rather it means that our destiny is in our hands “You reap what you sow”. It also teaches us the value of patience in our lives, and once you realize it, the greatest secret is in your hands. Everything that happens in life is gradual progress and the future is no different from the past, it comes from the past and no one can undo it.

A horoscope is the map of the sky at the time when a person has taken birth, the position of the planets in different signs holds the key to the assessment of events. Destiny is nothing but the results of our past karmas where fruits are delivered to us based on our past actions. Astrology says that for our every sorrow and happiness only we are responsible. So, we should not blame others for our misery and praise ourselves for our happiness because all these are our seeds that keep on turning into fruits from time to time. The study of “The Science of Light” helps us to disappear our ego, and accept that the Almighty is watching everything.
