When the Moon ran away with Jupiter's wife
Many stories
related to Jupiter have been written in our texts. Among them, when I read the
story of the birth of Mercury, I realized that it is of great importance from
the present perspective. In today's highly hectic work culture where everyone
is running and people do not have time for others, this story tells a lot and
indicates the consequences of such types of culture and environment.
The Birth
of Mercury
The Moon
(Chandra Dev) is the most beautiful of all the gods in heaven (Devloka). Devraj
Indra asked him to gain knowledge from Devguru Brihaspati (Jupiter) and become wise. As
per the advice of Devraj Indra, he starts going to Brihaspati's palace to gain
knowledge where he meets Jupiter's beautiful wife Tara.
Devguru
Brihaspati was very busy with the affairs of the kingdom and was unable to give
proper time for teaching and also for his wife. In the absence of Jupiter, Tara
feels an attraction to the Moon and a relationship develops between them. But
Brihaspati could not recognize what mistake he was making. His excessive
involvement in the activity of the kingdom and his absence provides both a
chance.
Soon, Tara
falls in love with Moon and elopes with him. This made Brihaspati very angry
and he asked Moon to return his wife but Moon refused. Brihaspati then told
Indra that if his wife did not return, he would stop performing all the rituals
and providing all the necessary direction for the kingdom. The story goes further
that Venus helped the Moon and the possibility of a war between gods and demons
intensified. Lord Brahma then intervened in the matter and asked Moon to return
Tara.
After such
intervention, Moon returned Tara, but Brihaspati refused to accept her, as she
was pregnant and Brihaspati said that this child is not mine. Now Tara is
helpless, where will she go now, she cannot go back with Moon and her husband
is not accepting her. Then, Lord Sun then came to Tara's rescue and said that
she could give birth to the child in their palace. Then Mercury was born which
is always close to the Sun.
Significance
of The Story
This story
has great importance in today's world. This indicates that even a very
knowledgeable person can make mistakes if he forgets the principle of balance
in life. It is very important to understand the mistakes made by Jupiter;
·
Incorrect assessment of priorities
·
Excessive involvement in a single
activity
·
Not giving time to other
responsibilities
·
Unable to catch the hidden
development
·
Misjudgment of the current situation
Jupiter was
unable to understand the attraction of Moon and the consequences of continuing
his ignorance towards Tara. He wakes up only when his wife runs away.
This story
indicates that even a very intelligent person can lose the most favorable thing
in his life by being overly involved in some activity and neglecting others.
Everything is
balanced in nature. When a person's life becomes imbalanced due to his
excessive indulgence, it has to be balanced. So, Jupiter is not the end of the
solar system.
Then, comes
the tough master, “Saturn - The Planet of Balance”, which shows the real world
to the person and cuts off all the redundancies done by Jupiter.
